The First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, a 2,000-member congregation located in Midtown, is a community of conviction and compassion seeking to humbly follow Jesus Christ. FPC invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of The John H. Stembler Scholar in Residence and Director of Biblical and Theological Education. The Stembler Scholar is a teacher, facilitator, convener, researcher, and author of biblically and theologically rich content for the congregation, the academy, and beyond. The Stembler Scholar creates unique learning opportunities and platforms for congregational discipleship, and also seeks to build bridges between church and academy to expand learning and faith. Finally, the Stembler Scholar will maintain a research portfolio and active guild membership in the scholar’s particular discipline.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in or related to theology, biblical studies, sociology of religion, homiletics, Christian ethics, or church history. They must be a professing Christian, affirming the essential tenets of the Reformed tradition, and be committed to work in the congregational context of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, embodying its mission and values. This is a full-time position with benefits through the PCUSA’s Board of Pensions.
