Platinum Jubilee Celebration for SBPC in Houston TX
This is the Platinum Jubilee year for Spring Branch Pres in Houston, Texas – our 70th birthday of the church. Not only that, it is the 70th birthday of our Boy Scout Troop #478. Plus, it is the 50th birthday of the Spring Branch Presbyterian Academy Day Care (celebration delayed due to COVID).
It all began in 1952. SBPC held its first worship service on March 23, 1952, at the Dad’s Club on Voss Road. The Charter Roll closed on September 14, 1952, with 72 members. The church purchased 3.8 acres of land, including easements, in Campbell Place for $7,000 in November 1952. The Session authorized the sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop 478 with 9 charter members and the construction of the original Boy Scout building on November 10, 1952. And, SBPC was chartered on November 18, 1952. In April of 1970, a day care program (now known as the Academy) opened and has been in continuous operation – even through a fire that destroyed our education building.
With so many things to rejoice, we decided we needed two days of celebration. On Saturday, November 5, we will begin with a Jubilee Festival on our church’s campus from 10am to 2pm. On Sunday, November 6, we will celebrate with worship and afterward with a catered lunch in The Gathering Place.
We would like to invite former pastors and family, staff, and members to join us in this celebration. If you think you will be able to join us, please let the church office know so that more information regarding details and reservations can be sent to you in the coming months.
