Galloway family gives Montreat conference center $1 million gift

Feeny Galloway.jpgThe family of Feeny Galloway has established the Feeny Galloway Community Endowment Fund in recognition of Mrs. Galloway's love for Montreat and its ministry "to call all God's people to a life of discipleship."  The permanent funds provided by this endowment will ensure that the unique community life of Montreat, with its Christian heritage, will be available to touch lives and strengthen family ties by supporting two important areas of ministry within the conference center: Clubs, the popular summer day camp program, and Montreat's Sunday Summer Worship Series.

Feeny Galloway's grandsons, Alexander and William Galloway, have grown up participating in the Clubs program at Montreat every summer.  "It was always a treat for her to have them there with her," wrote her husband James Galloway, "and she worked hard to make sure they loved that time in Clubs.   It worked.  They do love Montreat."  The Feeny Galloway Community Endowment Fund will assure the same life-changing Clubs experience for thousands of other young people by underwriting the cost of staffing, equipment, scholarships, and other needs.

Galloway went on to say that, as a popular lay preacher who was invited to teach and speak in churches throughout Providence Presbytery, his wife Feeny especially enjoyed worship in Montreat.  “Feeny was present for all the Sunday services in Montreat, and she loved that time,” he wrote.  Through the support of the Galloway family, Montreat’s Sunday Summer Worship Series will continue to offer the high quality of preaching and inspirational worship anticipated by the gathered community.

“The conference center is grateful to the Galloway family for its generous gift in support of these important ministries at Montreat,” said Vice President for Development Bill Straughan. “Feeny had a great love for this place, particularly for the Clubs program and summer worship, and this is such a meaningful way of honoring her memory.”

“Feeny is missed,” said conference center president George Barber, “but the Feeny Galloway Community Endowment Fund, a gift of one million dollars, is a gracious reflection of the belief she had in Montreat Conference Center.  Jimmy and the rest of Feeny’s family have honored that commitment in a way that will carry her special legacy forward for generations to come.”

Summers in Montreat were happy times for Feeny Galloway, who died in 2004.  “At the end of every summer,” Galloway wrote, “Feeny would say it was her best summer.  She said her last summer was her very best summer ever….and it probably was.”
