Elizabeth Andrews funeral September 6

(PNS) Elizabeth Andrews, a well-known Atlanta educator and widow of late Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly Stated Clerk James E. Andrews, died suddenly Aug. 27 of a massive infection.

         A memorial service will be held Saturday (Sept. 6) at Oakhurst Church in Atlanta.

         A Presbyterian elder, Andrews devoted her life to education. She served on the DeKalb County Board of Education from 1979 until her death. She twice served as chair of the board, the first woman to do so. She also served on numerous state, regional, and national education panels.

         Andrews served on a variety of community boards, including the South DeKalb Business Association, the DeKalb Council for the Arts, Decatur Community Ministry, the DeKalb Juvenile Foundation, the League of Women Voters and many others.

         For the PC(USA), she served on the Board of Visitors for Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.; the public education work group of the National Council of Churches; and was moderator of the Year With Education team for that 1998 mission initiative of the PC(USA).

            She is survived by two children: Charis Hanberry of Suwanee, Ga., and Bryan Andrews of Logan, Ala., and four grandsons
