Before assuming the seminary presidency, Carl served as senior pastor of First Church in Dallas, Texas, from 1983 to 2005. He has also been an adjunct professor of Austin Theological Seminary, Austin, Texas, and for seven years taught homiletics, worship, and New Testament Greek at Union-PSCE seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He is the author of several books, including “Dancing in Holy Places” and “The Lord’s Prayer for Today.”
Carl’s sermon for Nov. 9, entitled “Tickets for Tarshish,” focuses on the story of the prophet Jonah from the book of Jonah. His second sermon, entitled “Having Trouble Sleeping Through the Night?” explores the story of the prophet Samuel, who as a boy heard God calling him in the night and ultimately answered, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3).
