Reading Calvin in ‘09

James C. Goodloe IV, executive director of the Foundation for Reformed Theology in Richmond, Va., has a suggestion for reading in the New Year  — John Calvin.

John Calvin was born on July 10, 1509, and a year-long celebration with many events will unfold in 2009. “It is my hope for 2009 that thousands of Presbyterians and other Christians will observe this anniversary by reading his works, especially his Institutes of the Christian Religion, says Goodloe. Read this classic text of Reformed theology “for the purpose of glorifying God and of building up the faith and life of the church,” he adds.

The Foundation for Reformed Theology, which promotes the study of Reformed theology for the renewal of the church, has prepared a plan for reading through Calvin’s Institutes next year and it can be found at: https://www.foundationrt.org/Calvins_Institutes_in_2009.pdf.
