Hunsinger to receive Karl Barth Award

George Hunsinger, Princeton Theological Seminary’s Hazel Thompson McCord Professor of Systematic Theology and a scholar on the work of Karl Barth, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2010 Karl Barth Award by the jury of the Union of Evangelical Churches in the Evangelical Church in Germany.

Hunsinger is being “honored for his interpretation of Karl Barth’s theology and the political testimony that resulted from it as well as his achievements as a teacher of theology,” said the statement of the awards jury

The award also recognizes that Hunsinger’s theological achievements are linked to his critical view of the present and to his political engagement. In 2006 he initiated the National Religious Campaign Against Torture. What then began as an appeal by 150 Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other people of conscience in Princeton became one of the most important NGOs in Washington, D.C.
