Metaxas lecture on Bonhoeffer Oct. 7 at Brick Church

The New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas will be giving a lecture open to the public at Brick Presbyterian Church at 62 East 92nd Street in Manhattan. The Oct. 7 event is being sponsored by Brick Presbyterian Church and Auburn Theological Seminary in New York; and the Presbyterian Historical Society of Philadelphia, Pa.

Metaxas‘ lecture, “The Meaning of Bonhoeffer for Today,” draws from his recently-published book, Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. The book examines pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s religious opposition to the Nazi Regime, his decision to leave America for Germany in 1939, and his involvement in attempts to assassinate Hitler.

The event is designed to raise awareness of the good work being undertaken by the three sponsoring institutions. Tickets are available at the door and cost $20. The event starts at 7 p.m. with refreshments. The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. with a Q&A, book signing, and reception to follow. Copies of Bonhoeffer will be available for purchase and signing.

The author grew up in Danbury, Conn., and graduated from Yale University in 1984. He is the bestselling author of Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, and the Atlantic Monthly and he has appeared on CNN and FoxNews. He is the founder and host of Socrates in the City, the acclaimed Manhattan speakers’ series on “life, God, and other small topics.” Eric lives in New York City with his wife and daughter.
