The 30,000-square-foot facility is certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and has classrooms equipped with the latest education technology. University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, is launching the first three classes in its Christian Leadership Plus program this fall. The new progam provides continuing education for clergy. Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky., was due to celebrate the installation of Susan R. Garret as dean of the seminary on Sept. 6 during the opening convocation of the 160th fall semester. Dean Garrett, who earned her Ph.D at Yale University, has served as professor of New Testament at the seminary since 1995.
Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., has scheduled a new event for prospective students: Dokimazo, two days of sharing stories and discerning one’s call to Christian public leadership. “Dokimazo” is a Greek word meaning to discern, examine, prove or put to the test. The next Dokimazo event is Oct. 7-8 at the seminary.
McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, bestowed Joan B. Malick Scholarships on rising third-year students Deanna Drake, Eun Joo (Angela) Ryo and Maureen Murtaugh Wilson. Second Presbyterian Church (of Indianapolis) established the scholarship fund in honor of Joan Malick for her 20 years of devoted ministry.
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh, welcomes two new professors. Angela Dienhart Hancock, assistant professor of homiletics and worship, received her Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. In addition to teaching, she oversees the seminary’s worship life. Heather Hartung Vacek is assistant professor of church history and received her Th.D. from Duke Divinity School.
Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J., closes its bicentennial with a service of celebration on Oct. 25. Since 1812, Princeton has sent more than 21,000 men and women into the world to serve the church of Jesus Christ.
San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo, Calif., has expanded its Master of Divinity concentrations to include a new specialization in chaplaincy/pastoral care starting in the fall of 2012. The new concentration will help students develop competencies in the provision of pastoral care, which is critical in many settings, from churches to hospitals to faith-based nonprofit organizations. The concentration will also prepare students to meet professional requirements for chaplaincy.
