Hyatt labor disputes and Big Tent 2013

Several months after signing contracts for holding the Big Tent in Louisville, labor disputes involving some Hyatt Hotels resulted in a call for a global boycott of Hyatt properties. The Big Tent leadership, when alerted to the sanctions and mindful of our historic and biblical commitment to justice and labor equality, initiated a review of Big Tent contracts with Louisville’s Hyatt Regency.

It is important that no one who is coming to the Big Tent find them selves in the position of having to violate their conscience by attending any Big Tent events at the Hyatt. So in response, the portion of the agreement with Hyatt for meeting space and meals was canceled and a cancellation fee will be paid to the hotel. Hotel rooms previously set aside at the Hyatt are still available for those who do not object to making use of the Hyatt. There may also be dissemination of information and material about the controversy at the Big Tent by concerned Presbyterians.
