SEOUL, South Korea (PNS) The Rev. Sun Jhee has been elected as the new Moderator of the National Caucus of Korean Presbyterian Churches (NCKPC) replacing the Rev. Pyung Shim. Jhee, who holds a Masters of Divinity degree from the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea, has served for the past ten years as the pastor of the Vancouver Korean Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, Washington.
“It is with God’s grace and with a full sense of responsibility that I accept the position of Moderator,” said Jhee. “I will do my best to make this entity a better community—serving God and serving the people.
“I believe the Caucus is working to become a more missional community and is bringing groups together. However, there needs to be more participation among Korean churches.”
Jhee said his vision for the Caucus includes the following four points:
- The NCKPC becoming a more cooperative organization, working closely with the PC(USA) denomination.
- For the NCKPC becoming a missional organization overcoming the challenges from within and outside the NCKPC during chaotic times for the denomination.
- For NCKPC being more influential with the leadership of the Coordinating Committee for Korean American Presbyteries.
- For the 400 Korean speaking churches of the PC(USA) to work in closer partnership with the office of Korean Intercultural Congregational Support.
