The Rev. Sandra Moon, J.D., has accepted a new role at the Presbyterian Foundation: she is now serving as Vice President of Church Finances & Property and Adaptive Initiatives.
Moon joined the Presbyterian Foundation in February 2023 as a Ministry Relations Officer serving Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She moved to Portland, Oregon, to serve as a Ministry Relations Officer in the Pacific Northwest in early 2025. She will continue in her new role from Portland.
In this new role, Moon will work with the Ministry Relations team to assist congregations and other ministry organizations with financial information and analysis. She will provide financial analysis and perspective to help church institutions determinate their sustainability. Moon will provide guidance for churches in property inquiry and disposition and explore and offer new developmental resources to churches and leaders. She will join the Foundation’s Senior Staff in her new role.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to work with congregations as they discern their paths into their future ministries,” Moon said. “This work is vitally important during this season of the church. Spending time with congregations is the best and most life-giving work that we do, and I am excited to use my skills and background in this new calling.”
Moon’s education and experience makes her uniquely qualified for this new position. She holds a Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. She is an experienced civil attorney in the areas of estate planning, probate, and real estate. She brings a wealth of knowledge in law, fundraising and ministry to her work at the Foundation.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Moon was employed at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary holding various roles throughout her tenure, including Director of Alumni and Church Relations and Director of Admissions.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science and religious studies from Vanderbilt University. She was ordained as a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Minister of Word and Sacrament in 2016.
“We are all very excited to have Sandra join our senior staff and work with the leadership team more closely,” says Ben Hayden, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Presbyterian Foundation. “She’s proven to be a gifted Ministry Relations Officer who has worked effectively with congregations in her role, and we’re all looking forward to working with her more. It’s not only her background and education that make her well-suited to this role but her genuine care and concern for congregations and knowledge of the PC(USA) that make her a terrific fit. This transformative change will not only elevate the Foundation, but also inspire and strengthen the entire Presbyterian church.”
