On Monday the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Publishing Corporation announced the Rev. Dr. Bridgett A. Green as the new president and publisher of Presbyterian Publishing Corporation. Green, who will retain the position of editorial director of Westminster John Knox Press, the main book imprint of PPC, has been the vice president of Publishing and editorial director since 2022 and the interim president since May.

In her new role, Green will guide the editorial development and all operations for the nearly 200-year-old Press. She will also lead PPC’s executive staff as they continue to re-envision the Press as an anti-racist publisher and organization and guide PPC’s future in a changing publishing and religious landscape.

PPC’s Board of Directors formed a search committee in early May, following the retirement announcement of the previous president and publisher, David Dobson, who had served as president and publisher since 2018. The search committee interviewed a number of key PPC constituents —leaders in the PC(USA) and theological education — both for guidance for the search and to understand their hopes for the future of PPC and the next leader of the Press. These insights informed the board’s search for and vision of the next president and publisher.

After reviewing applications and interviewing many candidates, the committee narrowed its search and conducted final interviews in October. The vote to appoint Green was unanimous and enthusiastic. Green will be the first woman and the first African American person in this position in the history of the Press.

Green said of her appointment, “I am honored and grateful to be selected to serve as president and publisher of PPC, one of the nation’s preeminent publishers for the church and academy. PPC has a long and distinguished history of equipping the church, nurturing theological imagination, inspiring faith, and amplifying diverse voices grounded in the Reformed tradition. Its mission deeply aligns with my own calling as a scholar, a minister and a publishing leader. I look forward to collaborating with our exceptional staff, Board of Directors, authors, and partners across the PC(USA) as well as the wider ecumenical and academic communities.”

Acknowledging the changing needs of church and PPC’s role in religious publishing, Green said, “The religious landscape in the United States is dynamic, presenting both significant challenges and meaningful opportunities for faithful engagement. In its commitment to the church and academy, PPC is poised to continue as a leading voice in theological publishing — bridging tradition and innovation, scholarship and accessibility, conviction and compassion. With creativity, courage, and faithful imagination, PPC will continue to publish resources that support the church today and help envision the world God is calling us to build.”

“The Board is delighted that Bridgett has accepted our offer to be PPC’s next president and publisher,” said David Maltby, chair of the Board of Directors. “Her exceptional leadership as Interim over the past seven months has been beyond expectations. As the Search Committee reviewed numerous well-qualified candidates, it became abundantly clear that the demands of this position and Bridgett’s education and professional experience were exceptionally well-matched. We are excited for her and for the future of PPC.”

Several highly regarded scholars are also enthusiastic about the skills and expertise Green will bring to PPC in her new appointment. Emerson Powery, Dean, School of Arts, Culture & Society and Professor of Biblical Studies at Messiah University and friend of the Press, says, “With the strategic appointment of Dr. Bridgett Green as president, PPC and Westminster John Knox Press will be well positioned to sustain and advance its longstanding tradition of publishing influential works in biblical and theological scholarship for both the academy and the Church. Dr. Green’s deep commitments to the scholarly guild and to ecclesial communities alike are poised to draw a theologically and ethnically diverse range of authors across multiple disciplines, thereby continuing to cultivate the intellectual rigor and inclusive vision that have characterized WJKP’s distinguished leadership in religious publishing for decades.”

Dr. Brian Blount, former president of Union Presbyterian Seminary, also lends his enthusiastic endorsement of Green. “As president and publisher of PPC/WJK, Dr. Bridgett Green brings the perfect blend of scholastic expertise and administrative experience to the work of resourcing theological publishing for the 21st century. Having been a brilliant student, she knows what publications are needed for the classroom. Once an admired professor, she recognizes the kind of research that advances academic inquiry. A faithful religious leader, she possesses the necessary acumen to solicit and recognize published materials that will encourage and support the work of the church. As a result of her years of investment in religious publishing, she brings the strategic insight necessary for properly positioning PPC/WJK for its future endeavors. Words are insufficient to describe my joy regarding the news of this fantastic appointment.”

Green’s service to the denomination includes, among other things, serving on the boards of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, the Presbyterian Outlook, and Montreat Conference Center; leading Bible study for national staff trainings; working in the Presbyterian Mission Agency as associate for the Racial Ethnic Young Women Together office and a coordinator in the Office of Women’s Ministries and Racial Justice, and assisting various roles for the General Assembly. Green worked at PPC as an acquisitions editor from 2015 – 2018 and was Assistant Professor of New Testament at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary from 2018–2022. She is a member of the Presbytery of Charlotte.

Green holds a PhD in Religion from Vanderbilt University, with an emphasis in New Testament and Early Christianity. Her Master of Divinity is from Princeton Theological Seminary, and her undergraduate work was at Davidson College. Among her honors are the Luke-Acts Prize from Vanderbilt University, the Jagow Preaching Prize from Princeton Seminary, and the John I. Smith Honor Scholar at Davidson College.

Green will officially begin her new role January 1, 2026. Her appointment is pending final confirmation at the 227th General Assembly (2026).
