Holy, loving, and gracious God,
a new season of exploration is here, and you are with us.
The beginning of the academic year provides us
with a fresh start — a sacred season.
May we honor this chance to learn about you,
your church and your people.
May we practice gratitude, especially within the community
you place around us.
God of the theologically curious seminarian,
open our hearts and minds
to new and different theological perspectives.
Reveal yourself to us through the books we read,
the lectures we hear,
and the languages we learn.
God of the uncertain seminarian,
meet our anxious cries with your peace that surpasses all understanding.
When we experience the physical manifestations of our anxiety –
hot faces, tight chests, sweaty palms – you are with us, still.
Fill us with that peace, and remind us of your presence
as we discern your call.
God of the exhausted seminarian,
we aren’t sure if we will be able to
complete this rewarding but complicated journey.
Surround us with safe communities
and support systems in difficult times.
God of us all, guide us as we attempt to respond faithfully
to the call you have given us through
the pursuit of theological education.
Give us the endurance to run the race set before us,
keeping our eyes fixed on Christ, who accompanies us.
And grant us moments of joy and delight along the way.
