Ufford-Chase to receive Dignitas Humana Award

Rick Ufford-Chase, executive director of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship and moderator of the 216th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is being awarded the 2007 Dignitas Humana Award by St. John's School of Theology-Seminary.

Rick Ufford-Chase, executive director of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship and moderator of the 216th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is being awarded the 2007 Dignitas Humana Award by St. John’s School of Theology-Seminary.

St. John’s, in Collegeville, Minn., grants the award annually to recognize leaders who “do exceptional work on behalf of the poor and disenfranchised,” according to a statement from the school.

Ufford-Chase, a former PC(USA) mission co-worker,  is a founder of BorderLinks, which works to build relationships across the U.S.-Mexico border and leads educational experiences to immerse church groups, students, and others in border issues.

He will receive the award Oct. 17 and will give several lectures at St. John’s in connection with the event.

 Previous recipients of the Dignitas Humana Award include the Community of Sant’Egidio; the Rev. Carl Wilkens; the Taizé Community; Sister Helen Prejean; the Rev. Gregory Boyle; Jean Vanier; Marva Collins; and Jonathan Kozol.
