Writing in response to H. Carson Rhyne's "What's in a title?," Janet Benson makes the case that "commissioned pastor" offers greater clarity about the role CREs play in the life of the church.
Janet Benson is a commissioned ruling elder pastoring Wynne Presbyterian Church in the Arkansas Presbytery. A former lifelong member of the Southern Baptist Church, Janet began pursuing her CRE shortly after joining a PC(USA) congregation in 2021. She and her husband, Richard, live in eastern Arkansas near Memphis, Tennessee.
