Council meetings can be engaging

Here's the biggest surprise of all from the recent PC(USA) General Assembly Council meeting in Louisville.

Neal Presa, a 25-year-old council member who will graduate this year from
San Francisco Seminary, asked for five minutes to make a "point of personal privilege."

He took the microphone, called forth an accomplice bearing a spray of glowing red roses, and turned to his girlfriend, Grace Rhie, who was visiting from New Jersey. He told the story of how “God brought us together” — they met last year at a convocation of Asian-American Presbyterians in Houston — and how “you captured my heart.” He gets down on his knee and — well, and you know what.happened next.

Grace said yes! And (with Marian McClure, director of Worldwide Ministries passing out tissues to the rest of the council) Neal gave Grace a ring, a kiss and 100 origami cranes.
