The YWCA honored sixteen women and the organizations that have stood behind them for the women’s contributions to their professions, communities, educational institutions, or organizations. “One of the driving forces to select an honoree is that the person exemplifies the YWCA mission–to eliminate racism and empower women,” said Patricia Orr, director of public relations for the YWCA Princeton. “Dr. Sakenfeld stood out for her contributions in both these areas.”

In 1975 she was one of the organizers of the first women’s studies program at Princeton Seminary, which also included a significant component regarding racial justice.
