General Assembly committee begins its search for a Stated Clerk Nominee
The Stated Clerk Nomination Committee (SCNC), elected at the 217thGeneral Assembly in Birmingham, AL, is now accepting applications for the position of Stated Clerk of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
The Stated Clerk is an officer of the General Assembly, serves as the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) representative to ecumenical and interfaith bodies, and is the chief executive officer of the Office of General Assembly. Applicants must be an Elder or Minister of Word and Sacrament of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A candidate from those who apply will be nominated by this committee. The Stated Clerk will be elected by the 218th General Assembly in San Jose, CA, June 21-28 and will serve a four year term beginning in July 2008.
The committee will receive applications over a three month period, beginning September 23 through December 23, 2007 (deadline set by the Standing Rules). The committee will review applications and interview candidates for the Stated Clerk position beginning in January through March 2008, and announce its nominee by April 22, 2008, sixty days prior to the convening of the 218thGeneral Assembly.
