GA News: First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto, California receives Witherspoon Society’s Whole Gospel Congregation Award

The Rev. David Zuverink of Los Gatos, California, presented this year’s Witherspoon Society Whole Gospel Congregation Award to the First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto, California.

The Whole Gospel Congregation Award is given to a church in recognition of its broad and multi-faceted work and commitment to its community and to all people. “I’m always looking for a church that has the answers,” said Zuverink, “but this is a nomad congregation and they don’t pretend to have all the answers!” Praising the work of the laypersons of the church, Rev. Rob Martin, of First Pres. Palo Alto, said, “I often feel that we as the pastors just need to get out of the way!”  Martin expressed his appreciation for the congregation noting that “it is an incredible church and it is my deep honor to serve this congregation.” Associate Pastor Nan Swanson and Clerk of Session Kathy Merkle-Raymond joined Martin in accepting the award, along with many members of the congregation.
