Abhari had to leave his pastorate due to support no longer being available and moved to Tehran where he worked with the Iranian government as well as professor of English in the College of Translation. He has worked on Persian translations of the New Testament (1975) and the Old Testament (2007) and continues his work as an editor in the ongoing work revising the Persian Bible.
“I am very grateful to the caucus and to you my brothers and sisters in Christ,” said Rev. Abhari in receiving the award.

The National Middle Eastern Presbyterian Caucus presented Rev. Mehdi Abhari The Fahed Abu Akel Award in honor of the General Assembly’s 214th Moderator. Considered by Iranian Christians worldwide as their senior pastor, confidant, and scholar, Rev. Abhari was ordained as a minister of the Evangelical Church of Iran.
