We are the Presbyterians, Inundated with creeds
Oft’ called God’s frozen chosen, but proud of social deeds.
With decency and order, we tread the middle ground.
Though unclear in our vision, our doctrine still is sound.
Some think a sermon’s better when Scottish burrs they hear
And bagpipes on occasion will bring a smile and tear.
Directories shape our worship, and yet it can be free.
If this still sounds confusing, come join, and you will see.
We work with other Christians and surely that’s o.k.
A Presbytery links us, not bishops with their sway.
A General Assembly and Synods have a place;
Committees beyond number most often slow our pace.
“Reformed and e’er reforming” are words that we hold dear.
Evangelism scares us, e’en though the Lord is near.
While numbers are declining, confusion’s in our head.
We need the Spirit’s quick’ning, or soon we may be dead.
