Charles Allen Ferguson, 79, died April 2

Charles Allen “Chick” Ferguson, 79, Chief Executive Officer of Kerygma, Inc., for the past 20 years, died April 2. He resided in Pompano Beach, Fla., and Chautauqua, N.Y.

A memorial service is in planning for summer 2009 in Chautauqua; details will be announced at a later date.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Anita; children: Charles of Plainfield, N.J., David, of Bradford, Pa., and Grace Zarou of Cornelius, N.C.; six grandchildren; a brother, William F. Ferguson of Houston, Texas.
Ferguson served in the United States Air Force in World War II and went on to a distinguished business career with Rust Engineering Co. in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Executive Manning Corp. For the past 20 years, he served as CEO of Kerygma, Inc., a leading publisher of Bible Study courses. He was a member of the board of directors of Desert Ministries, the Chautauqua Presbyterian Association, and a member of the Duquesne Club, and the Lauderdale Yacht Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be sent to The Chautauqua Presbyterian Association, Box 1039, Chautauqua, N.Y.
When he learned of Ferguson’s death, Richard A. Ray of North Carolina, former pastor and editor of John Knox Press and general editor of Kerygma Bible Studies, expressed “deep sadness” at the loss, and a gratitude for what Mr. Ferguson meant to the ministries in which he served. “Chick … was a man of deep Christian faith and commitment. He and his family rose to accept what they heard as an unmistakable call to set Kerygma on the path to the next stage of its ministry. The number of people who have been guided by it into significant study of the Scripture is beyond measure,” Ray said.
