PDA awards grant to Haiti initiative

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has awarded a $50,000 grant to an interfaith mission from New Jersey that is working to provide medical care and education in Haiti.

The grant was given to “Sending Our Love to Haiti,” a mission led jointly by Eileen W. Lindner, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Tenafly, and Rabbi Jordan Millstein of Temple Sinai of Bergen County, and supported by more than 25 churches and congregations from the area.

The money will be used to develop an urgent care center at Sacre Coeur Hospital in Milot, Haiti, and provide facilities for visiting volunteers at the hospital.

On Feb. 21, 2010, following the devastating earthquake, the interfaith group raised more than $100,000 via a benefit concert in Englewood, N.J., called “Sending Our Love to Haiti,” which featured musicians from the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera and Broadway.
