The called meeting was held to consider findings and recommendations of the Moderator’s Commission on Erskine College and Theological Seminary, according to the ARP Web site. The synod voted to name 14 interim trustees pending the 205th stated meeting of the ARP General Synod June 8-10 at Flat Rock, N.C.
The 30-member board with its 14 new members will serve until the June meeting at which a new, re-structured board will be constituted and the college bylaws may be revised, according to local press reports.
Erskine College is also facing the retirement of its president, Dr. Randall T. Ruble, later this year – a retirement announced several months ago.
“No changes in administration, faculty, or staff are being made,” Ruble said in a statement quoted by the Greenwood Index Journal newspaper. “This change is a governance matter.”
