Video report: Jack Haberer talks with Mustafa Barghouthi

The former Palestinian presidential candidate (received 19 percent of the vote when Mahmoud Abbas was elected in 2005), and founder/general secretary of the third Palestinian political party shares his hopes for reconciliation and peacemaking in the Middle East with Outlook editor, Jack Haberer, when they met recently in Dr. Barghouthi's Ramallah office.

This exclusive interview opens a new OUTLOOK Web communications arm – videos.

One clarification:  The interview was held just prior to the convening of the 219th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  One item of major controversy being considered by the GA is the report of the Middle East Study Committee and its many proposals for action by the GA.  The interview is offered not with any attempt to endorse or oppose the committee’s report.  Some are challenging the historical accuracy of the report as well as its lack of input from American Jews. Its recommendations for action are drawing acclaim and outcry.  Those concerns need to be addressed on their own merits.  Nevertheless, this conversation with one of the most respected and visible leaders among the Palestinians, one who is decidedly opposed to the violence of Hamas and to the corruption in Fatah, one who is passionately committed to peaceful resistance is presented with the hope that it encourages just such a consideration of all concerns. click here to view video
