Feasting on the Word Liturgies for Year A, Volume 1— Advent through Pentecost
edited by Kimberly Bracken Long Westminster John Knox Press, Louisville, Ky. 204 pages.
Another in the series that has become standard material for worship leaders, this is a welcome addition for those who want thoughtful, theologically sound liturgical resources for each Sunday.
Each volume contains calls to worship, prayers of intercession and confession, as well as a question for reflection in response to the Sunday readings. The Sunday prayers for households that encourage the tradition of praying at home are particularly valuable. This is not a resource to be mindlessly copied. It is a well of prayers to dip into each week as you prepare to lead the people of God in worship that resonates with contemporary concerns without losing the influence of the ancient, ecumenical church. Included are additional resources: Eucharistic prayers for each of the major holidays, greetings and baptismal thanksgiving prayers.
Making it easy for the worship leader is a CD that allows easy printing into worship services. I don’t recommend lazy worship leadership and neither do the writers of this book. Rather they encourage thoughtful words that lift the heart and mind. Enjoy.
