Donald Register, a pastor in Illinois, and eight other clergy were arrested for demonstrating in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in January 1964. They spent nine days in cells. Donald refused to eat in jail afraid the food would be contaminated. When asked if he didn’t trust in God, he replied, “I think it was God who told me not to eat.” Their record was expunged in 1998.
