Decatur, GA — Columbia Theological Seminary announced that it will livestream its upcoming conference on Bible, Empire, and Reception History during November 18-19. The Bible, Empire, and Reception History conference will explore the production and use of the Bible in various historical and geographic contexts of empire. It will consider the use of postcolonial criticism in interpreting biblical texts and its implications in modern contexts.
“We had to limit the number of participants to only 80,” said Dr. Raj Nadella, Assistant Professor of New Testament. “All of the available slots were taken some time ago, but we will livestream the conference at http://livestream.com/ctsnet/berh. There will also be an overflow room on campus from where students and others can watch the conference on a screen.”
“This promises to be a fascinating and productive time of interdisciplinary conversation between scholars from around the world.” said Dr. Brennan Breed, Assistant Professor of Old Testament. “We fully expect that there will be interested listeners from other countries as well, and livestreaming is the best way to facilitate that.”
More than thirty scholars from around the globe working in the fields of postcolonial discourse, biblical reception history, and various other fields will participate in the conference. Presenters and respondents will explore the use of postcolonial criticism in interpreting biblical texts and its implications in modern contexts through four sessions: 1) The Bible and Ancient Empires, 2) The Bible and Empire in the Americas, (3) The Bible and Empire in Asia, (4) The Bible and Empire in Africa. A publication of the presentations will be produced. More information about the Bible, Empire, and Reception History conference may be found at http://bibleempireandreceptionhistory.net/.
