ST. LOUIS – Hundreds of Presbyterians gathered in the convention center on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 19. However, instead of sitting down, engaging in parliamentary procedure and passing overtures and resolutions, they filed out of the convention center chanting, singing, and holding signs.
They were there to deliver a message – and a check for $47,200 for bail relief.
Once the marchers arrived on the steps of the City Justice Center, J. Herbert Nelson gave an impassioned speech in front of the building.
I will say again what I have oft repeated in the last week: as a lifelong Presbyterian, now graduating from Union Presbyterian Seminary-Charlotte, I’ve never been as proud of my denomination as I am right here, right now! Let freedom ring! Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Amen and amen!
