Lord, our Master, Teacher and Friend, your patience with us is limitless. Your disciples misunderstood your parables, forgot your instructions and fell asleep when you explicitly asked them to remain awake. You loved them, and us, anyway. You repeated yourself, used stories and modeled by example what you wanted your followers to learn, tirelessly teaching us your ways and the will of God.
We remember today students, young and old, those dreading getting up and going to school and those wishing desperately they could attend class. We ask your special care for those who are prevented from getting an education due to war, violence, poverty, illness or discrimination. Show us how to help students struggling under the weight of problems outside of their control and not of their own making.
May our prayers be embodied as we work for quality education for all students, everywhere. Grant us the wisdom that enables students’ creativity, sparks their curiosity and fosters a delight in lifelong learning. Send your Spirit to energize and enlighten, sustain and support, treasure and tend, every kind of student in every kind of setting, all over your beloved world. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Master, Teacher and Friend. Amen.
