Grant Chapel Presbyterian Church & Darien First Presbyterian Church — Darien, Georgia
In October, women from Grant Chapel Presbyterian Church and Darien First Presbyterian Church, both in coastal Darien, Georgia, came together as sister churches. At the first meeting, the Women’s Group decided their initial project would be to help children. Assisted by the Dorcas Society of Darien, these women set about sewing dolls and matching pillowcase for children in our community and for children in the Bahamas, which had recently been devastated by hurricane Dorian.
A weekly “Sewing Bee” developed, and six weeks after beginning work, 103 dolls and 53 pillowcases were complete! The colorful, joyful dolls each had the word “Jesus” and a heart inscribed on the back.
During Sunday morning worship, a blessing was given over the gifts for God’s children. Fifty dolls were delivered locally and 53 dolls with matching pillowcases were flown to the Bahamas.
