Last week, Presbyterian Outlook relaunched our website with a new look, new and expanded content, and an updated paywall. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, but we have heard from some subscribers who have had trouble logging into the site. Below are a few tips and answers to frequently asked questions.
Trouble logging in
- I’m already a subscriber. How do I login? If you have a current print or digital subscription to Presbyterian Outlook and have logged-in to the website before, just click the LOG IN link in the upper left corner of the website, directly next to our logo. Enter your email address and password.
- Ugh. I’m getting a message that says I’m already logged in. But I still can’t read articles. Now what? For most subscribers, the solution will be to reset your password. Visit the login page and click “Lost Password.” If you get a message that says you’re already logged-in, click the LOG OUT link in the upper left corner and then reset your password.
- Argh. That didn’t work either. What do I do now? If step #2 didn’t work, there are a couple of common scenarios: A) Maybe a different email address is associated with your subscription, or B) there’s no email address associated with your account or C) your subscription has lapsed and you’ll need to renew first. To figure out which of these might apply, visit the subscriber services page and look up your subscription using your account number and zip code. (You can find these on the mailing label of a recent print issue.) Once you’ve found it, you’ll see the email that’s associated with your account and whether or not your subscription status is active or lapsed.
- My subscription is lapsed. How do I renew and get immediate access to the website? Click the RENEW link in the upper left corner or visit the renew page here.
- I have an active subscription, but I need to register my email address (or change my email address). How do I connect my email address to my subscription? Register your email address here. You can also update to a different email address.
- Yikes. None of the above worked. Help? Send us an email and we’ll be happy to sort it out!
Other questions
- How many articles can non-subscribers read before hitting the paywall? The new site is currently set so that users can read three articles before a paid subscription is required. Posts to the Classifieds section and the Did You Hear? sections are always available — no subscription is required to read those posts.
- Why have a paywall at all? Having a metered paywall (where new readers can read a few articles before a subscription is required) allows us to make our journalism widely available and sustainable. The reporting, editing, technology and planning it takes to publish a magazine and website require resources — and the paywall is one strategy for helping to earn the resources to keep this mission going and growing.
- What are some of the best new features of the new website? There’s lots to like about our new site but here are some of our favorite things:
Author Archives: Now you can find all the pieces published by the Outlook from a particular author: from Outlook Editor and Publisher Teri McDowell Ott, National Reporter Leslie Scanlon, regular contributor Andrew Taylor-Troutman, and many more. Just click the byline underneath the headline on any article to see the author’s archive.
Newsletters: Did you know that Outlook has two email newsletters? And we have plans to launch more in the next year.
Did You Hear? This new section is for sharing news and announcements about ordinations, retirements, new appointments, etc.
Classifieds: This popular section is easier to navigate and the most recent posts are featured on the home page.
Store: The new Outlook store makes it much easier to find hymns, faith formation materials, back issues and more.
Got feedback on the new site? We’d like to hear from you. Write a letter to the editor or send us an email.
