A prayer responding to Hurricane Ian

"We pray to you, God, because Psalm 91 reminds us that those who live in the shelter of the Almighty can take refuge."

Prepare us, God, for wind:

The wind of Hurricane Ian;

The wind that blows us in a storm.

Prepare us, God, for rain:

The rain of Hurricane Ian;

The rain that wets our presence and property.

We seek shelter in you

Shelter from the tropical storms of life;

Shelter from the threats of disaster.

We seek peace in you:

Peace from turbulent weather;

Peace from being tossed and thrown.

We pray to you, God, because you are the God of wind.

We pray to you, God, because you are the God of rain.

We pray to you, God, because Psalm 91 reminds us

that those who live in the shelter of the Almighty can take refuge.

We pray to you, God, because Philippians 4 reminds us

not to worry, but to pray awaiting the peace that passes all understanding.

Bless, God, those who will endure the wind and the rain to save others.

Bless, God, those who will provide shelter and peace for those who are displaced.

Bless, God, those

who will help to restore power,

who will provide food and water,

who will tend to the injured,

who will house evacuees.

We believe that you are in the wind — may we feel your presence in creation.
We believe that you are in the rain — for we know Jesus Christ reigns.
We believe that you are shelter — may we feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that you are peace — may we know peace by praying to you.
