Though we’re shaped by different patterns, blest with varying
strengths and arts,
Still one kindred spirit joins us: Common threads run through
our hearts.
In the waters of baptism we were sealed to be God’s own.
Living out our confirmation, in God’s image we have grown.
As we celebrate communion, pass the cup and share the bread,
We embrace the ties that bind us: we are joined by common thread.
For the working of God’s purpose, grant us vision, help us see
Common threads ensure our union as we build community.
As we grow in Godly wisdom, may we lead as we are led.
Bearing one another’s burdens, may we feed as we are fed.
God creates, and God redeems us;
God sustains us as we live, fills our cups to overflowing, teaches us
to freely give,
Comforts us when we are broken, mends our hearts, anoints
our heads,
Draws us close to one another, intertwines our common threads.
God’s true kingdom is among us, not in far-off time and place.
’Tis the gift we give each other, gift sustained by God’s own grace.
May we strive to bear God’s likeness until love and peace
are spread,
Until we and all creation recognize our common thread.
