The seminary’s Board of Trustees voted May 5 to approve the budget cuts, which will bring reductions in costs through 2011 and will involve both the campuses in San Anselmo and in Pasadena.
A seminary new release stated that the seminary’s endowments have lost a third of their value and that maintenance costs for campus buildings came to nearly $1 million a year. The news release did not give details about what positions are being eliminated or how many people are being laid off, although it does refer to both faculty and staff cuts.
The seminary also is creating a new “Future Visioning Task Force,” which will be led by Joanne Whitt, a graduate of the seminary, a member of its board of trustees, and pastor of First Church in San Anselmo.
