WCC drop in contributions

Geneva (ENI) — The global economic crunch has hit membership contributions to the World Council of Churches, which have dropped, a meeting of the church grouping's main governing body, its central committee, has heard.

“Total membership income fell from 6.6 million Swiss francs in 2007 to slightly more than 6.1 million in 2008,” stated the WCC’s 2008 financial report, distributed to committee members at their August 26  – September 2 meeting in Geneva. The number of member churches making membership contributions in 2008 fell by 19 percent from 232 to 187.
