60-minute webinar with Q&A
October 11, 2022, at 7 p.m. EST
On-demand replay available
Join Teri McDowell Ott for a conversation with PC(USA) Advocacy Director for the Office of Public Witness & Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations Jimmie Hawkins about his new book Unbroken and Unbowed: A History of Black Protest in America. The book, which was released in February 2022, is the only account of its kind that covers the whole history of Black protest through recent 21st-century events.
Of Unbroken and Unbowed, President of Repairers of the Breach and co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign William J. Barber II writes, “By chronicling the history of Black-led protest in America, Rev. Hawkins both reveals a tradition of struggle for a more perfect union and unmasks the lie that Black protest is ‘un-American.’ To receive this history is to know and know again that America would not be half the country she is if Black people had not believed her promises and worked with others to make them a reality. God bless Rev. Hawkins for telling the story and living it in his own leadership and witness today.”
