“We are in a prime area for downtown real estate,” said Joey Bailey, GAC deputy executive director for shared services, “and it only makes good stewardship sense to take advantage of our location to produce additional funds for mission.”
Commercial Kentucky Real Estate Advisors, a firm specializing in downtown Louisville real estate, will have the exclusive right to lease the space for a 12-month period.
“One of the great benefits of the recent restructure of the GAC offices, is that we have been able to relocate staff in proximity to their colleagues, and combine most of our vacant space on one side of the first floor of our building, said Bailey, “We can now take advantage of that asset by leasing the space and using the income in support of the church’s mission.”
The GAC offices, located at 100 Witherspoon Street in downtown Louisville, consist of two former warehouse facilities, connected by a 90-foot atrium. The two buildings combine to provide 210,000 square feet of office space and house the operations of four General Assembly agencies: the GAC, the Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, and the Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program.
The Presbyterian Center opened in 1988, five years after Presbyterian reunion in 1983. Previously, denominational offices were located in Atlanta and New York.
Construction has recently begun on a new downtown sports and entertainment arena across the street from the PC(USA) facility. Primary tenant of the arena will be the University of Louisville basketball team.
