GA News: General Assembly passes resolution in support of the Presbyterian Church in Zimbabwe

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) today (June 27) approved a resolution in support of the Presbyterian Church in Zimbabwe.

After noting that this is the day of elections in Zimbabwe, the Rev. William Pool, moderator of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa, which includes the Presbyterian Church of Zimbabwe, prayed before the assembly.

“Watch over your people we pray, and we pray that they may go to their beds tonight in peace and that tomorrow there may be some new kind of resolution in the people¹s minds to find a way forward in peace,” prayedPool.

“As a partner church of the Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) recognizes a unity in our common tradition, in our commitment to the justice, peace, and compassion of Jesus Christ, and in the abiding Spirit of God,” states the resolution. “We dare not remain silent.”

The motion passed with a resounding “Aye” from the commissioners.
