LOUISVILLE, KY – PC(USA) Moderator Neal Presa and Vice-Moderator Tom Trinidad sent a churchwide letter sharing recent efforts and future hopes for reconciliation between differing factions in the PC(USA).
The letter reported about an Advent gathering of leaders and representatives from Covenant Network of Presbyterians, Fellowship of Presbyterians, More Light Presbyterians, NEXT Church, Presbyterian Voices for Justice, Presbyterian Welcome,
and That All May Freely Serve at the Stony Point Conference Center in New York “to share and envision our future together.”
Through prayer and worship, shar- ing faith stories, engaging in “candid and truthful conversations in love,” they concluded that they all share
two things: “a mutual recognition of one another as sisters and brothers in Jesus Christ; [and] the ability to be able to begin discussing the nature of our theological differences in the spirit of respect, humility, friendship, and affection.”
The letter states that the partici- pants aim to convene a broader table in this discussion.
Dated and titled, “Baptism of the Lord Sunday, 2013,” the letter subtly reflects an ecclesiastical passion of the two leaders, both of whom hold doctorates in liturgical theology.
