Sudanese across U.S. gather in Des Moines for Nuba Day events

Sudanese from around the country, many of them refugees, met at Des Moines’ Westminster Presbyterian Church this weekend for a three-day gathering to raise awareness about the people of Nuba.

 

The Nuba Mountain region is in South Kordofan, Sudan, a war-torn region where residents have endured violence, imprisonment and death at the hands of Sudanese troops.

 

As home to hundreds of expatriates from the region, Des Moines was chosen to host this year’s Nuba Day events, which focus on community organizing, culture and food.
