“Help End the Mid-East Standoff”

10 Years Ago — February 2, 2004

“The next day we witnessed a demonstration by Palestinians protesting the building of the ‘Apartheid Wall’ that would divide their village, leaving their school and cemetery on the Israeli side. … The wall is not being built along the 1967 border, but is encroaching more than 12 miles into the West Bank and enclosing some of its best crop land and water resources. Although touted as a ‘security fence,’ it is a land and water grab. … Israel has been consistently confiscating Palestinian land, constructing settlements on it for Jews only, restricting Palestinian travel by setting up hundreds of roadblocks, demolishing their homes, devouring their water resources, and oppressing them in many other ways. … When a Jewish woman heard Palestinian women describe how they were suffering under occupation, she wept and said, ‘I love Israel but I hate what Israel is doing.’” So the report goes from one of the nine Presbyterians sponsored by Christian Peacemaker Teams and the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship as their visit to Israel.
