LOUISVILLE (PNS) “Come! Let us feast in the kingdom of God” is the theme of the Moderator’s Second Convocation for Asian American Presbyterians, which will take place directly before the 221st General Assembly (2014) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in Detroit.
The pre-assembly event, scheduled for June 12–13 at the Detroit Marriott in the Renaissance Center, is designed to “spark conversations on the history, contextual realities, identities, and hopes of Asian American Presbyterians as we serve in the church and in our various communities,” said Neal Presa, Moderator of the 220th General Assembly (2012).
The event builds on the first such convocation held in 2001 in Houston. It was organized by Syngman Rhee, Moderator of the 212th General Assembly (2000).
Presa hopes this second gathering will continue the initial mission to “celebrate our unity in Christ and our heritage, each contributing to our common roots of being Asian Christians.”
The format of the convocation is intended to stimulate conversation among participants. Short presentations by a panel of speakers will be the basis of discussions, facilitated by Bruce Reyes-Chow, Moderator of the 218th General Assembly (2008).
Tickets for the Moderator’s Second Convocation for Asian American Presbyterians can be purchased through the 221st General Assembly (2014) registration page. Limited scholarships also are available (PDF), and will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to those who qualify. Scholarship applications (PDF) must be submitted by no later than May 21.
