Worship is the church’s essential and primary spiritual practice. When worship works in us and among us we know it. Something connects. Something speaks powerfully within us. A divine contact is made at the center of our lives. Diverse things link up for us. We are stirred, perhaps moved to tears or filled with joy. We are motivated to action. We want to talk about it and to share what has touched us deeply.
Excellent worship is key for a spiritually alive and healthy congregation and for each member’s spiritual growth and effectiveness as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Congregations have much at stake in planning and providing such worship. In this webinar we will engage in focused exploration and practice in planning for both weekly and seasonally significant worship.
Participants will:
- Appreciate the interrelatedness of various elements and movements within a typical Lord’s Day service.
- Understand different musical styles and genres and their significance in worship.
- Consider opportunities and obstacles encountered in planning engaging, educational worship.
- Plan a Lord’s Day service using lectionary texts for a typical Sunday in Ordinary Time (October 11, 2015).
- Explore several ideas for deepening congregational worship in the upcoming cycle of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany.
Who should participate? Pastors, musicians, worship committee members, educators, seminary students, and ruling elders will find this helpful – and anyone interested in cultivating vibrant worship!
