Trinity Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas, meets with several local churches at the end of the summer for a “backpack bash.” They fill backpacks with school supplies for children who can’t afford them. Members of First Presbyterian Church in Mercedes, Texas, write prayers; when this congregation passes out backpacks, there is a prayer pasted on the back of each backpack with a reminder of “how much the people of God love you and care for you.”
