In the heart of Texas Hill Country lies the small city of Kerrville on the banks of the Guadalupe River. The home of Presbyterian Schreiner University and the gateway to nearly 30 camp and conference centers, Kerrville is home to the 700-member First Presbyterian Church. The church is known for its 54 custom stained glass windows and million-dollar pipe organ.

But the most important thing that is right about the First Presbyterian Church’s life is its comprehensive membership care ministry based on a vital Stephen Ministry network. The church’s Stephen Ministry team includes 18 highly trained and deeply spiritual caregivers serving 25 to 30 care receivers in a regular one-on-one continuous relationship. This ministry team provides a superb comprehensive caring ministry within the congregation.

This comprehensive ministry provides for many persons with special needs a companionship ministry unusual for churches of similar size and varied membership, including many retirees to the Hill Country.

— David Tritenbach, active member and retired pastor
