Redwoods Presbyterian Church — Larkspur, California
Like many churches in the COVID-19 era, Redwoods Presbyterian Church is meeting for worship by Zoom. Though we have had great success with this format, there are some members that are unable to participate. One was a member approaching her 97th birthday. A deacon suggested that we meet at the church in masks and walk with social distance to offer a birthday surprise to this member at her home. The group showed up with signs, flowers and cards as the astounded member waved from her balcony.
It was such a success that the deacons have continued the new tradition on other members’ birthdays. Though the next surprise was for a 98-year old member, being a nonagenarian is not a prerequisite for a birthday visit from the deacons!
