Black U.S. church members boycott S.C. over flag

(ENI) — African American members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a U.S.-based Protestant denomination, are joining other church bodies in boycotting the state of South Carolina for displaying the Confederate flag on the state capitol grounds.

Taiwan churches welcome Dalai Lama as China denounces the trip

(ENI)--Churches in Taiwan welcomed exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader the Dalai Lama who prayed in the village of Hsiaolin on the south of the island on August 31 while visiting typhoon victims. Beijing said, however, it "resolutely opposes" the trip by the Dalai Lama, who it accuses of leading a campaign to separate Tibet from China.

WCC drop in contributions

Geneva (ENI) — The global economic crunch has hit membership contributions to the World Council of Churches, which have dropped, a meeting of the church grouping's main governing body, its central committee, has heard.

“Objectionable actions” prompt Beaver-Butler declaration

Beaver-Butler Presbytery, convinced that the 2008 General Assembly had committed a series of “objectionable actions,” has issued a “Theological Declaration” to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), outlining what it sees as the assembly’s failings and inviting other presbyteries and congregations to join in the declaration.
