The range of religion is as wide as life itself. God’s word and God’s will for [humanity] extend to every part of our life. … Our Christian faith is relevant, it has something to say to us in every relationship and undertaking of life. … Jesus placed love to our neighbor on a plane second only to love to our God. Jesus inquires whether a [person] can possibly love God who does not love his neighbor. … Thus any activity or phase of life which touches our relationship with others persons is religiously as well as morally important. … If it is true that religion’s range is as wide as life, then religion has a vital connection with economic life. If it is true that God judges us by our conduct toward others, then God judges us for our economic life. If it is true that human relationships are what reveal our character then our economic relationships reveal our character.
